The evening before, Fr. Vasili Mihai, Proistamenos of St. Paul Church in Savannah, Georgia joined Fr. George Tsahakis as they celebrated Great Vespers for the Feast of St. Christopher the Martyr - the patron saint of our beloved parish! Thanks to our many parishioners who attended both days of our weekend celebration.
During the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy on Saturday, His Eminence offered an Artoklasia Service for the health and salvation of the faithful of our parish family on the occasion of our Name Day and for the family of Fr. George who offered the five loaves, wine, wheat, and oil. His Eminence also offered a Trisagion Service for the memory of Josh Waynick, son of Fr. Gregory and Presbytera Laurie Waynick who fell asleep in the Lord in a tragic fire on Sunday, May 3rd, and whose funeral took place on Saturday as well. We invite our parishioners to respond with support to Fr. Gregory Waynick and his family whose home was totaled in this disaster.
Before church services concluded, young Christos Vasiliadis, joined by his parents, Yiannis and Sheryl, received the St. George Medal from the Eastern Orthodox Commission on Scouting from His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios. Fr. George Tsahakis shared the progress of young Christos in his scouting program, and his extra efforts to learn our faith outside of church services and Religious Education. His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios encouraged him to consider the calling of the vocation of a Priest and encouraged our parishioners to share this spirit with all our young faithful. Axios, Christos!
A surprise and very special presentation was made to Fr. George Tsahakis and our parishioners by Fr. Jacob Myers and the parishioners of St. John the Wonderworker Church in Atlanta, GA. He gave a festive icon of St. Christopher the Martyr that included a small relic of our Patron Saint for our sanctuary. We are deeply appreciative to Fr. Jacob and his parish of St. John the Wonderworker for this special blessing.
After church services, a formal luncheon welcoming our guests and parishioners was offered by our Philoptochos Society. Special thanks to Gail Ericcson for chairing this event and to all our faithful who assisted with food preparation and the set-up before and clean-up afterwards. We could not have offered such a lovely fellowship luncheon without you!
Glory to God for His blessings on this special day and always. Thanks to all our faithful who were present and all those who seek to grow our parish - often without recognition, thanks, and notice. We were most appreciative for our many visitors and guests today who traveled great distances from surrounding parishes, and especially to His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios for His encouragement and support. May our Risen Lord grant Him "many more years!"
