TRIODION: A Guide to Prepare for Great Lent

 

 

Sunday, February 5th marks the beginning of Triodion - the time of preparation for our spiritual journey of Lent, a time for Orthodox Christians to draw closer to God through worship, prayer, fasting, and acts of charity.

Beginning this Sunday, and continuing for the next three Sundays, we have an opportunity to share with our families and friends special themes leading us up to Great and Holy Lent which begins on Monday, February 27th. Our Holy Archdiocese offers us instructive resources to learn more about our Lord's teachings and Orthodox faith.

Following their performance, dance troupe members went out into the audience and encouraged guests to join them. Our dancers enjoyed teaching them the basic dance steps. Notice how natural they look and how much fun our guests are having.

More than 20,000 visitors experienced this year's spectacular Air Show in Peachtree City, GA. They had an opportunity to select our well-organized, efficiently-run, and delicious food booth amidst many other food vendors and we didn't fail to satisfy those who chose us - delivering authentic gyros, souvlaki, baklava, and drinks to patrons supporting this annual charitable event. All proceeds will be used for our future building program. Thank you once again to our parishioners who sacrificed for this event!

Congratulations to our Co-Chairmen, Tammy & Costas Soulakos and all of their faithful volunteers (sorry, we were too busy to take pictures), who after attending church services at 7:45 a.m. Sunday morning served at our food booth until closing Sunday at 6:00 p.m. (with clean-up afterwards). What an incredible experience!

Fr. George overheard one passenger on the shuttle bus (who was unaware of his relationship to our booth) share to his friend how delicious the food was at our booth and what a great price it was. Thanks again to our St. Christopher team! We were greatly blessed with a huge turnout, a fun and safe weekend, and resources that will be used to build our future parish home. And, we got to be part of an annual tradition - the popular Air Show event takes place each October at Falcon Field in Peachtree City and features a variety of aircraft and aeronautic performers and daredevils, in addition to numerous family friendly events to enjoy and exhibits to peruse.

On Sunday, July 10th, Fr. George blessed three new prayer shawls that will be donated to the Orthodox Christian Mission Center's Mission Trip to Albania. He is assisted by Philoptochos President Dina Tagalos Kearns, BJ Spanos, and one of our youth. Our Philoptochos chapter is sending a total of eleven prayer shawls to those in need in Albania.

We offer Thanksgiving and Glory to God for the Feast of Holy Pentecost. We appreciate everyone's presence and participation on Sunday, June 12th, as we commemorated this Feast, along with Vespers of the Holy Spirit, and an early Father's Day since we will not have church services at St. Christopher Church on Sunday, June 19th (Father's Day). Special thanks to our Philoptochos Society for offering such a delicious and well-served luncheon to honor our Fathers and congratulations to the Co-chairs - Gail Ericsson and Sheryl Vasiliadis.
